Targeted Ads on Facebook

Targeted Ads on Facebook

I don’t think it will come as a surprise to anyone that Facebook delivers targeted ads. That’s how they make money – they take all this beautiful data you are giving them and show you ads they think you’ll be interested in. Google does the same thing. I also don’t think it’s shocking that they have very particular classifications for people that can help them do their ad targeting.

What is surprising is that they actually tell you how they classify you. Ok, maybe this is old news to some, but I just found out this week. Being the nerd I am, I just had to see what they think of me.

So there you have it. I think they are pretty accurate. I have heard that there are 52,000 categories so Facebook is surely missing from pretty obvious categorizations. I mean, obvious I should be classified in the Clothing > Mens > Big and tall apparel.

If you want to find your own list, go to Settings > Ads > Your Information > Your Categories. Here is a decent list of Facebook categories: https://www.andreavahl.com/facebook-advertising/facebook-ad-targeting-the-complete-list.php
