As the first country I visited in southeast Asia, Indonesia will always hold a special place in my heart. This recent report from McKinsey suggests that the Indonesia I have in my mind is not the one I will see when I get back to visit in the coming years. The opportunities for growth and development in Indonesia are staggering with 90 million Indonesians expected to enter the consuming class in the next 18 years (or even 125 million with marginally higher GDP growth). The agriculture and fisheries supply chain improvement goals are especially interesting to me. I am excited to see the prospect of Indonesia climbing comfortably into place as the world’s 7th largest economy in the years to come. A summary of the report is available below and clicking through to the full report is recommended for anyone with the time.
