Malaria has been a notoriously tough disease but researchers have finally figured out a way to track potential flows of malaria. The key to solving the problem is cell phone data. Using (anonymous) tracking data, a recent study has mapped out the probabilistic flow of malaria throughout Kenya. With the model in place, realistic intervention policies can be tested, piloted and enacted in the areas where they will do the most good to stopping the flow of the disease. The first link provides an overview of the study. For any true nerds, you can click the second link to get to the full article.
